SHERIFF'S INITIATIVE FOR PUBLIC SAFETY (SIPS) Explore SIPS

Chief Dale Erne started working for the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in 1994 as a Deputy Sheriff Jailor in the Jail Bureau. The Chief worked in several capacities during his career including the Lieutenant of the Staff Services Bureau for over four years, Sheriff’s Administration, and supervising Jail Administration. After 25 years of service, he retired as a Captain in 2019. 

Chief Erne returned to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office in November 2022 as Chief of the Court Bureau. He loves the camaraderie in law enforcement and the ability to feel you make a change in people’s lives and protect the community. The Chief describes it a pleasure to serve the sheriff’s department again, serving in a new bureau and moving our department forward. Chief Erne has been happily married to his wife Lisa since 1986, has three sons, Mitchell, Ryan, and Sean and one grandson, Levi.
