Phil Gombatto has 26 years of experience with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. He graduated from the Part-Time Police Academy in 1996 and was sworn in by Sheriff Andrew Meloni. Gombatto worked as a patrol deputy assigned to the Greater Rochester International Airport for two years.

He took a full-time deputy position in the Civil Bureau in 1998. Ten years later, he was promoted to a Civil Bureau Sergeant and later appointed to Bureau Chief in 2015. During his tenure, he obtained Instructor Development School certification, Firearms Instructor Certification, and also completed Civil School Phase I and II. Gombatto received his Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science from St. Bonaventure University in 1993. He has been married to his wife Heide for 25 years and they have three children; a daughter and twin boys.
