INMATE RELEASED FROM THE MONROE COUNTY JAIL REMAINS HOSPITALIZED IN GUARDED CONDITION WITH COVID-19

Rochester, NY (February 5, 2021) – In consideration of our commitment to transparency, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office shares the following: On Thursday, February 4, 2021, an incarcerated individual’s sentence was completed while he was hospitalized at Strong Memorial. The individual, a white male in his 60’s, remains hospitalized in guarded condition due to preexisting medical conditions and COVID-19.

While incarcerated in the Monroe County Jail, the individual was tested four times for COVID-19 with negative results. In mid-January, he experienced symptoms from a preexisting condition, which required hospitalization. The following day, after admission to Strong Memorial, the individual tested positive for COVID-19. He remained in the hospital for 10 days. Upon discharge, he was returned to the Monroe County Jail. On the same day, PrimeCare Medical staff, the medical provider for the jail, evaluated the individual and in coordination with Strong Hospital he was readmitted.

Throughout the individual’s hospitalization, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office worked diligently to successfully locate and notify the man’s family members who live out of state, making them aware of his circumstance.

The individual was serving a local sentence on a Felony conviction. Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) requirements preclude disclosure of personal identifiable information.
