Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Speedway in the 4900 block of W. Henrietta Rd. in the Town of Henrietta for a burglary alarm at 3:10 in the morning on November 4, 2023. The alarm company witnessed a man on the security cameras as he stole cigarettes and placed them in a black duffle bag inside the closed store. The first arriving deputy observed a man exit the store carrying a black duffle bag. Upon seeing the deputy, the suspect ran around the back of the building. The deputy released his K9 partner, who quickly caught the suspect, assisting deputies with taking him into custody. Deputies recovered the black duffle bag containing over $5,000 in stolen cigarettes.

Deputies arrested and charged Carmichael Marrero, 36, of Rochester with:

  • Burglary in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Grand Larceny in the Third Degree (Class D-Felony)
  • Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree (Class E-Felony)
  • Resisting Arrest (Class A-Misdemeanor)

Deputies transported Mr. Marrero to Henrietta Town Court, where he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance in accordance with New York State law.

Mr. Marrero also had outstanding arrest warrants for Petit Larceny in the Towns of Sweden, Greece and Irondequoit. MCSO issued Marrero an appearance ticket for the Sweden warrant and turned him over to the Greece Police Department.

The deputies and their K9 partner performed exceptionally well in this potentially dangerous incident. Their rapid response time and coordinated effort to apprehend this individual are commendable.
