On May 5, 2024, at 11:55 in the morning, Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies observed a man on a bicycle in the area of Paul Road and Chili Avenue in the Town of Chili. Deputy Dambra recognized the man as Salvatore Latone from previous encounters, who had outstanding warrants for arrest out of the towns of Henrietta and Greece. Upon seeing the deputy, Mr. Latone started pedaling faster in an attempt to evade arrest. With the help of Deputy Berardi, Deputy Dambra took Latone into custody. While searching Latone, deputies found a small bag containing white powder on him, which tested positive for cocaine.

Salvatore R. Latone, 51, of Chili is charged with:

  • Obstruction of Governmental Administration in the Second Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)
  • Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the Seventh Degree (Class A-Misdemeanor)

A Gates Police Department investigator responded to the MCSO C Zone substation to interview Mr. Latone for their Grand Larceny investigation. Mr. Latone was arraigned in Gates Town Court and remanded to the Monroe County Jail without bail, as he is a predicate felon.

A key component to good police work is a deputy’s familiarity with their area of responsibility. Deputies Dambra and Berardi effectively employed their expertise, combining their knowledge of crime patterns and individuals of interest, to apprehend and arrest a wanted person.
